Selangor Government and Federal Government out to bully and create Islamic superiority/hegemony state.

the sri mariamman temple in section 7 shah alam 1.jpgShah Alam Council building a retaining wall to block view of the Sri Mariamman Temple in Section 7 Shah Alam- an insult to multi religious society- concerted effort by both Selangor Government and the Federal Government to bully and create an Islamic superiority/hegemony state?

HINDRAF is shocked with the attitude of the Shah Alam City Council along with Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) that has undertaken construction of a 700 metres, 10 feet retaining wall along the Highway to block the view of the temple from road users of the highway. We wonder if this is part of the concerted effort by both Selangor Government and the Federal Government to bully and create an Islamic superiority/hegemony state.

It is utterly absurd, insult, provocation, and creates division amongst thethe sri mariamman temple in section 7 shah alam 2.jpg multi religious community that the Selangor government sees it fit to approve such a project at the expense of the public purse with such a notion.

HINDRAF is questioning the logic behind such irrational and arrogant action when this temple is actually a historical temple with its roots over 100 years when the whole area was Midland Estate from the colonial era.

Notwithstanding the indiscriminate demolishment of temples faced in the past, it now appears the Selangor State Government is willing to go an additional mile to block even the sight of the temple.

The Sri Mariamman Temple in Section 7, Shah Alam over the years has become one of the tourist attractions similar to Batu Caves with both the local and international tourist. The existence of such a beautiful temple in the enclave of Shah Alam is something that the state and country should feel proud about and not belittled with such idiotic actions carried out by the Shah Alam City Council & Malaysian Highway Authority(LLM).

Bearing in mind that Selangor state reflecting a fairly proportionate distribution of the various ethnicities, it surely would not be welcomed by its subjects with such bigoted actions by the Shah Alam City Council & Malaysian Highway Authority(LLM).

the sri mariamman temple in section 7 shah alam paper cut out.jpgIndisputably, the state should promote, integrate and compliment unity amongst the various beliefs in the nation to safeguard and strengthen their unity and solidarity with a sense of belonging as oppose to belittling the Malaysian Indians with such provocative actions.

In the earlier years, the Selangor Pakatan government had compromised the 4 acres of gazetted land that was allocated for the Midland Tamil school by selling it to the I-City developers and now they are trying to hoodwink the Indian community by erecting the retaining wall along the Highway.

It is pathetic that in a multi racial country such as this, we still have bureaucracy and legislators acting in a manner without a full understanding of the social fabric of the nation as a multi racial society.

We fail to see any substantial reason for the Selangor state government to expand the public purse for such a frivolous reason without any respect for the Indian community and the Malaysian public in general. HINDRAF calls on the Selangor Government to stop the insult of Hindus and instead take positive steps to promote co existence amongst the multi religious community.

Thank you.
